Maple Pecan Pie

Even though it was a whooping 90 degree high in LA today, I'm still trying to get into the Fall spirit! I finally put up all of my Halloween decorations!!! I also decided baking a pie would definitely be a fitting fall activity. At first I was thinking of making a Pumpkin Pie, but that just felt too basic! haha! I decided to go with a Pecan Pie! They're so delicious and really underrated. I also never made one before, so that would be a fun added challenge! My brother Asad and I love baking together so he came over and we had a fun sibling baking day! It was fun experimenting and creating a delicious and surprisingly simple recipe! Check it out below!

Ingredients:

Pastry Crust

  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

  • 1/2 cup or 1 stick unsalted butter, chilled, coarsely chopped

  • Pinch salt

  • 1 egg, chilled

  • 1 tablespoon ice water

Filling

  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1 egg

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 1 cup pecans

Optional topping:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream and/or Whip Cream

Instructions:

1. In a food processor, combine the flour, butter and a pinch of salt. Pulse until the mixture

resembles big breadcrumbs.

2. Whisk the egg and 1 tablespoon ice water in a bowl until combined.

3. With food processor motor running, add the wet mixture to the flour mixture. Process until

mixture begins to form large clumps, stop the machine before the mixture forms a ball.

4. Knead very gently to bring the dough together. Form the dough into a disk shape, wrap in

plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1.5 hours.

5. Using a light dusting of flour on your board and rolling pin, roll out the dough to the desired

thickness. Lay the dough into the pie plate and prick all over with a fork. Trim and decorate

the edge of the pie as desired.

6. In a large bowl, combine the maple syrup, egg, brown sugar and cream.

7. Transfer the filling mixture to the pastry-lined pie dish.

8. Top with the pecans.

9. In a 350 degrees preheated oven bake for 35 minutes or until set. Let cool before serving.

10.Serve the pie with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
